Get to know your client

Published by admin under Posting by Peg

Heeeeeey! Whassup? Okay, it’s been a while. Like a month. Here I am again. So, we have been getting new clients from other fine web developers. Yes, I said fine. In fact, my competition rocks at development. They do. However, our 4 latest clients have the same compliants about their former web developers: they don’t know anything about us.

How uncool is that. Listen, you would not sell flip-flops to a person in need of snow boots in Alaska, right? That’s the problem, so much great stuff out there, but not everyone needs the same thing. Really. One of our clients said that the former web firm was awesome. That’s totally cool. The thing they failed at? They said to the client, “We will do anything. What do you want us to do?” Okay, way too open-ended question. (I would think wash my car, pick up my dry cleaning and update my blog daily would come to mind). If you don’t know what your client does, what makes them tick, what’s their market, then what’s the point of building a website? Nada. No point.

Clients need guidance. They have a ton on their plates. They do. In addition to marketing, they have HR issues, operational stuff, and accounting transactions to deal with. That’s just the tip of the ice berg. What web people have to remember: clients are human beings. Treat them that way. Therefore, you will build a better website. Amen to that.
